The war on plastic has seen the launch of a new online service that will deliver products ranging from soft drinks to washing powder and shampoo in refillable containers, such as durable metal, glass or plastic containers that can be returned and reused.
Supermarkets have also begun to gauge whether shoppers are willing to put in the extra effort required to make refill schemes economical in their stores.
While sustainability experts are hopeful that such refill schemes will succeed, plastic packaging is a £540 billion industry with its demand still rising, particularly in Asia.
