Cheaper and cleaner alternatives to coal electricity

Cheaper and cleaner alternatives to coal electricity

Not only will wind and solar plants be cheaper to build than running existing coal-fired power stations, it is expected that renewable power would cost less than electricity from existing coal plants by 2030.

Coal has seen diminishing demand in the US, where it has been overtaken by cheaper gas-fired power and in India where it has been outpriced by solar power.

The market is driving the low-carbon energy transition, with more calls for governments to allow renewable energy to compete on a level playing field.

Will we see the end of coal-based power in our generation?
